Gleaning is the act of collecting leftover crops from farmers' fields after they have been commercially harvested or on fields where it is not economically profitable to harvest. Some ancient cultures promoted gleaning as an early form of a welfare system.
On February 27, 2010, approx. 45-50 people form Community of Hope including Youth, Families (along with some really small guys!) and Adults travelled to a local farm in Lake Worth to glean tomatoes for the needy. A Total of 8,729 lbs. of tomatoes were gleaned. Later that same day, these freshly picked tomatoes were delivered to needy families in our area. This was a special treat for these families since they usually do not have access to fresh produce. Below, you will see a picture of some of the folks who participated in this event. What an awesome blessing they were to many, many families that day!
